Kierkegaard once said, “Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.” Seems like an appropriate theme line for a blog by a person over 70 who has figured some things out, is frustrated and furious at the political situation in the U.S., and no longer has to worry about being either right or wrong.
I had a wonderful fantasy the other day when, four hours after I had written Nancy Pelosi imploring that she lead the House in refusing to approve the FISA law extension including Bush’s attempt to protect the telecoms from law suits, she sent House members home for several days. And they say the aged and the cranky have no power.
Last night I saw for the millionth time that hideous ad for chairs with wheels featuring marauding bands of geriatrics doing menacing mall-circles in their Hoverrounds. God help everyone over 60 (the new 20) if their self-image depends on media ads. They are either celebrating some AARP insurance or doing figure eights in a mall.
Who has read Howard Kurtz’s new book on the network news shows? Reality Show is excellent in its attempt to explain why Brian Williams need not be Cronkite and Katie Couric need not be excoriated for pumping light air into a nightly news broadcast. I don’t buy it all but continue to follow Reliable Sources on CNN and Kurtz’s books with interest.

Your letters have power Puffin. Madame mimi Speaker’s action (or inaction) could have a profound effect unless Bush behaves in normal fashion and ignores the edict.
