I guess the Olympic torch is still making its stealthy way through San Francisco with a police escort that would make the Chinese proud. Too bad that same number of protectors has not gone to Tibet to support the monks.
Aside from the transcendent idiocy of the money and time and machinations spent deciding which country has the fastest skater, what is more lunatic than escorting a torch that has not for decades bore the slightest resemblance to the original.
We cannot, the talking heads tell us, boycott the games because the athletes have worked so hard to get there! And who wants to annoy China even though a correction of their human rights stance was a stipulation for that country getting the games. So now the world surrenders Tibet to the sweat and dedication of guys and gals who do gymnastics and the feral goals of countries who want economic and political goodies from China.
Those folks rioting for the games to be held nude—pace history—make just about as much sense.

The Olympic Committee should be ashamed for choosing China as the site for the games. Are they so pompous as the assume that all would be well in the world with the Land of no human rights being the benefactor of huge PR for a tyrannical form of Communism/Capitalism/Socialism that holds a billion people under the heavy hand of a chosen few.
The Reds are getting what they deserve.
The games must go on. Separating it from politics is like asking a lush to abstain from drinking!

The games are absurd. The OC is up for grabs to the highest bidder. China is no longer red but has little or no interest in human rights still. The stoopid running with the flame was never part of the original games, anyway. As they say you cannot go home again. So let’s find worthier activities than running and jumping at huge expense.
