John McCain and i are about the same age. I am a supporter of Barack Obama.
That being said, I want to talk “senior” to “senior.”
Although when you have seen one 71-year old you have seen one 71-year old, I want to note some things that I have noticed that may be useful for those considering a 71-year old president.
At my age, I have retired from one academic job and am working 4-5 days a week as a Mac software troubleshooter and tutor. I am healthy. Work 8-10 hours a day, and have a relatively active social life. I lack Cindy McCain’s $$ so work and count on NetFlix for entertainment.
You would not want me as president.
By the end of the day I am really, really weary. I could mention Czechoslovakia or confuse Sunnis and Shias even if I actually knew the accurate designations. It is easy to forget familiar words, to lose track of the brands of apple sauce, and to feel beleagured by times that have changed.
You would not want me as president.
I am not suffering from dementia. I am not unhealthy. I am not stoopid or uneducated. I am just older than I was 30 years ago.
You do not want me as president.
The country needs a young guy who can make a basket from the sidelines, Who can hold ideas and info at the tip of his/her tongue. Who can work 48-hours at a rip and survive for an additional day.
American needs the best we have. And good as John McCain and I have been and are still, we are too bloody old to be president.
