Those Alaskans with whom I talk and who presume to believe they are delivering the truth about Sarah Palin tell me that she is hot to drill in ANWR and is suing the feds to dismantle protections for the polar bear.
I need hear no more.
But there is more. She is, they tell me, protective of Ted Stevens. She is anti-gay marriage and civil unions. She admits to having paid little attention to the war in Iraq. She is a member of the NRA, and thinks it is fine to shoot wolves from airplanes so hunters can save the moose and caribou for themselves.
If any of the above is true—and I intend to find out—McCain has been more myopic than usual. In a doddering effort to snag the Dem’s Hillary PUMAs, he insults a good many women with his assumption that one pair of high heels is as good as the next when it comes to luring the female voter. So to win liberal Hillary supporters, he offers a pro-life, anti-gay, anti-environment, big business Republican whose major claim to fame is having spawned numerous times.
I am a little amazed that any woman would let herself be used by the Mr. Magoo of the beltway.
Anyway, one assumes all will be revealed. Meanwhile, Hillary and her folks will have a good laugh, and the rest of us can remember McCain with his nose pressed against Pat Robertson’s $500 shoes. On Wall Street, Pandering has soared on the board.
Meanwhile, I would not want this woman in charge of any part of my life.

Very cool post. I especially like the Mr. Magoo line. And I think your list is correct, though I don’t know yet about the connection with Ted Stevens. Palin is also a creationist, I read. The folks who like to write trash about Barry Hussein Obama will love her, I’m sure. But I can’t imagine any serious Hillary supporter casting a vote for her.

Thanks, Julian. A message today from MoveOn includes the following:
“Who is Sarah Palin? Here’s some basic background:
She was elected Alaska’s governor a little over a year and a half ago. Her previous office was mayor of Wasilla, a small town outside Anchorage. She has no foreign policy experience.1
Palin is strongly anti-choice, opposing abortion even in the case of rape or incest.2
She supported right-wing extremist Pat Buchanan for president in 2000. 3
Palin thinks creationism should be taught in public schools.4
She’s doesn’t think humans are the cause of climate change.5
She’s solidly in line with John McCain’s “Big Oil first” energy policy. She’s pushed hard for more oil drilling and says renewables won’t be ready for years. She also sued the Bush administration for listing polar bears as an endangered species—she was worried it would interfere with more oil drilling in Alaska.6
How closely did John McCain vet this choice? He met Sarah Palin once at a meeting. They spoke a second time, last Sunday, when he called her about being vice-president. Then he offered her the position.7″

If you do not drill for oil, you will not have any oil. You do realize that don’t you? If you don’t have any oil, it cost a lot of money to drive your car and the economy goes into recession just like it did in the 1970’s and 1991. Do you people want receissions? You do realize that in Alaska, oil revenue allows Alaska to give free money to all Alaskans? Are you against more state revenue? Have you ever talked with someone who actually works in the oil industry? I worked for oil companies and it helped put me through college. That was a real job and real money. Are you against real jobs and real money? Have you paid any attention to Iraq? We are winning you know. We liberated 20 million people from an national socialist jew hater with imperial ambitions. Does that sound familar? How are gays being discriminated against? They can do anything anyone can do but a marriage by definition is between a man and a woman. I wouldn’t want to call a bonding between a man and his dog a marriage. Why do you think all women want socialism? Maybe a lot of women want to be free to hunt and join the NRA and to not be told what to do or believe that worshipping the earth is mandatory.
