Whew. Our President notes that Gustav is “a serious storm.” Nice to see him at FEMA HQ leading a second mighty rescue of NOLA. As just a small sign of the significance of the threat, Bush and Cheney will skip the roll-out of the Republican convention so they can devote their skills and perceptions entirely to the well-being of those in the storm’s path. Meanwhile, McCain’s PR team hopes to get him to the wind-killing grounds in time for some useful pix, and the entire convention may be turned into a fund-raiser for the Red Cross. Hmm, that bunch must again be in need of computers.
Now someone fetch those trailers that stood unused after Katrina and get those cruise ships ready to receive hurricanees. The feds are coming to help.

You do know that disaster management is primarily a state and local responsibilty? You do realize it was the state of Louisiana and the city of New Orleans who failed to order the evacuation of the city during Katrina? It is a good thing that Bobby Jindal handled this emergency so competently.

Hi, Chippy. I actually do realize all of the above, but clearly the existence of FEMA is evidence that the feds also bear some responsibility. So I can easily find the mayor and the Louisiana governor to be muddle-heads and still find Bush’s reaction to the disaster ludicrous and incompetent.
Appreciate the comment though.
