Well, the anti-libs are aflame with satisfaction these days since MSNBC or its parent NBC have pulled Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews from anchor chairs at the election and returned them to their home turf of analysis and color.
Not a bad idea since both hardly align to the fictional “objective” meme that it pleases the networks to announce of their news anchors.
Personally, I would rather hear Keith Olbermann discourse on the events of our time than drink Chardonnay and nibble black olives, though blessedly I do not have to choose. KO is brilliant with language, and he is “biased” only if one believes McCain/Palin tell the truth and the Bush Administration is both bright and ethical. Since I believe neither, I find Olbermann an oasis in a hidebound, timid, and tortured media, pretzel-bound in appearing to be neutral while their brothers and sisters are tossed in jail by the Republicans.
But both Matthews and Olbermann are mighty egos, and each deserves to be. Joe S. is a lightweight who should not have been invited into the room with major intellects and wits. Best to let the two real analysts do their separate thing and let David Gregory do his usual competent job of being “objective.”
But the hysteria over MSNBC being skewed to the left in its pundits is both true and absurdely pointed out so long as Fix News is baldly biased in both reporting and analysis, CBS is simply uninteresting and semi-competent, parent NBC self-conscious and static, and ABC is pleasant and country squire-ish but all are without passion. And tonight we welcome Rachel Maddow, another human being with enough blood not to try and pretend she is toiling in some Panglossian world.
In sum, hurrah for MSNBC and whosever guts made it possible for us to actually hear bright, informed, articulate people describe the naked emperor.
