Twilight for Twinkies?

September 21st, 2008 · 1 Comment

One of my fave sites, Snopes, reports that the Governor of California has on his desk a bill that would name May 22 as Harvey Milk Day.

You remember Harvey Milk. Dan White ate too many twinkies and blew him away in a fit of pique at not getting his job back.

And now the dread of Milk actually becoming someone in the state, someone the politically indifferent might learn about even though May 22 would never be a paid state holiday is sending shivers through the homophobic California voters.

Good for Harvey. It would have been far better not to have shot him, of course, and not to have escaped thanks to the twinkie defense. Dontcha wonder whether the murderer of a straight guy would have flourished under this defense? We all know the answer to that one. Even California sometimes nods.
