Palin on Journalistic Ethics

October 1st, 2008 · No Comments

Did you catch the walking interview segment Katie Couric did with Palin when KC inquired about the magazines Palin read? Waving her exquisite fingers, Sarah Palin said, “Oh, I read them all.” Asked for specifics, she burbled something like Oh I just read all that come in front of me.

I was delighted to come upon Chris Cillizza’s column Palin’s War on the Press. It seems that questions like that posed above are, according to the-heartbeat-away-from-the-presidency candidate, “gotcha questions.”

Actually today I had been thinking about SP’s undergrad degree in journalism and wondering if she had been the sort of student my colleagues and I usually encouraged to go into tv repair. Palin seems especially keen on contrasting the journalism ethics she learned (the good ones) with those of Couric and other contemporary sly boots. Hmmmm, wonder what chapter of her ethics book taught her to lie repeatedly about matters subject to objective proof.

As Cillizza points out and we all know, it is always safe to insert a stick in the back of the media. But the daring of Palin is that she uses a fake fingernail and thinks it is a stick.
