Fabo news from the election, One of the many admirable things about Obama’s campaign is that he ran as a man with a vision, not a Black man or Straight man or whatever. The media is busily undoing this leap forward with its endless self-congratulation that we have an African-American president.
If ever the “news” was designed to create an adversarial and racist climate, this is it. And all in search of news, the sort that CNN et al confused with Anna Nicole Smith and such ilk.
The country has done a wonderful thing. More importantlyh, it has done a wise thing, Can we not individually be wise and treat the election for what it was—the selection of the best possible leader?

Dear Puffin,
I am quoting your blog “Can we not individually be wise and treat the election for what it was—the selection of the best possible leader?” I just want to share my thoughts with you about the media, and the last sentence of your blog. In the historical context of this election the media I feel was obligated to make a lot of noise about Obama’s election. It was certainly a first in the entire history of our country they really had no choice.
As for your quote, the majority of people did just that, they made a decision based on the mans intellect. I believe he won the popular vote by 8 or 9 million. More importantly he changed 6 to 7 states from red to blue and won in an electoral landslide. The solid red stated continue to be states from the deep south, confederate flag flying dye in the wood racists, and I don’t mean to infer that they are all republicans with that remark there are plenty of southern democrat voters in the same shoes, I am happy that we have Obama’s intellect to deal with the problems and issues that we are now facing because of the Bush administration. I just think it will take more than a few generations before there are more progressive people in our country, but this is a great start. My last blog covers some of the issues that you mention. Best wishes to you and you cute little friend.
Regards,
Joseph

Joseph, how about a link to your blog? I’d like to take a look at it.
Thanks so much for stopping by and for leaving a comment. I just fear that the elaborate media chorale about the “first Black president” will (1) excite racists to lamentable and tragic action, and (2) turn the election into an exuberant statistic rather than a finally wise move by the electorate.
