Are reading about the Rent-a-Pet programs? Apparently many cities have such programs for people who confuse dogs and cats with handbags and umbrellas.
What sort of people do such programs invite us to be?
I am astounded. Is a dog or cat an item to be displayed on Day X and returned on Day Y? What sort of man or woman wants an animal for this day but not for that day?
I read where one woma celebrates that she can enjoy Golden Retrievers but does not need to keep one day in and day out.
What on earth do these people think animals are? Does it not matter to an animal to have a home and a consistent life? Do we pass them around like magazines?
Why is not animal renting illegal? It goes against every instinct of every living thing.
Anyone want to fight this with me?

I’m with you. What’s the matter with people? I can’t imagine the psychological stress it’s putting on those animals to be carted around and left with strangers every day. I suppose they’re kept in kennels during the “slow” times. What’s it going to take for human beings to get it? Atrocities in our own past haven’t done much to increase our sympathy for other living creatures. Not until we’ve been made the pets of some invading force will we understand. Take a listen to “We’ll make great pets” by the band Porno for Pyros.

You know gobs of weird music, Beth. I wish there were some concerted way to fight this trend. If you hear about any group moving on it, will you let me know?
